Why counselling?

profile picture

I have held a longstanding interest in psychology and human behaviour, first studying psychology at A Level. Over time, this interest developed into a deeper commitment to understanding emotional wellbeing, relationships, and the therapeutic process.

Professional Training

Counselling training history

In January 2024, I completed a 12-week Introduction to Counselling course at City Lit in London. Wanting to explore counselling more seriously, I went on to complete the Foundation Certificate in Integrative Counselling at The Awareness Centre (TAC), achieving a pass in the summer 2025. The course involved 100 guided learning hours and introduced me to a range of therapeutic theories, relational approaches, and reflective practice.

Current training path

In September 2025, I progressed to the Diploma in Integrative Counselling again with TAC, where I completed the first term and module studying Carl Rogers’ Person-Centred Approach alongside Petruska Clarkson’s five-stage relational model. During this time, I passed a triad observation and engaged in both course supervision and personal therapy as part of my training experience. Due to an unexpected change in my work circumstances, I made the difficult decision to step away from the course, with the intention of restarting in September 2026 at TAC, Nine Elms branch.

My Journey

Period of transition

Following a significant period of personal change, including relocating from London to the Poole area in 2025 with my two young children, I have become increasingly interested in the ways life transitions, relationships, identity, and emotional resilience shape our inner world. This move also gave me the opportunity to build a more grounded and sustainable foundation for both family life and future professional development.

Personal development journey

Personal development has remained a central part of my journey. I have been in weekly personal therapy for over two years with counsellors specialising in both psychodynamic and integrative approaches. Alongside this, I regularly engage in reflective journaling, meditation, and reading around subjects such as attachment theory, trauma, and emotional development. I value the importance of self-awareness and believe that genuine reflection is an ongoing process rather than a destination.

Work/Education experience

After completing a degree in Law, I was predominantly interested in how disputes can be resolved in a non-legal context, having chosen a degree that looked at law in the social context.  Complementary work experience to counselling involved being a volunteer neighbourhood mediator, supporting individuals in navigating conflict and communication challenges with empathy, impartiality, and understanding. In my current role as a Senior Business Development Specialist in the Professional Services sector, I continue to develop strong relational and interpersonal skills, which I believe are equally valuable in therapeutic and human-centred spaces.

A space to reflect and share learnings

This website is a place for me to document my ongoing journey into counselling, personal growth, and emotional understanding through writing, reflection, and conversation. While I do not currently offer counselling services, I hope this space provides thoughtful, honest, and relatable insights for others interested in mental health, self-development, and the counselling profession.
